This inherited characteristic is apparently only found in males.
It affects the skin on the crown causing hair thinning in and around the crown creating a certain pattern. Normally this fault results due to failure of follicles to produce regular hair roots. The weak hair roots cause the growth of thin hair which eventually falls off leaving a clear field, hence baldness.
The present follicle weakens further and can no longer support production of new hair. Different study units have shown that male pattern baldness is more of a genetic factor, with other claiming a portion of non-genetic links but none has been proved as yet.
